How to measure a dinosaur
Use a variety of learning areas to understand the actual size of a dinosaur.Firstly read the Journal article 'How do you measure a dinosaur?' written by a class from Island Bay School.
Then use you maths skills to draw a proportional grid over a picture of a dinosaur. This part is very tricky, you need to read your ruler carefully, draw straight lines and label it accurately.
Next use metre rulers and chalk outside on a suitable surface to draw the actual size of a dinosaur following your grid you created in class.
Finally step back and look at the size of the creature you have re-created!
This activity allows you to form an understanding of real dinosaur size while you are using reading, maths and problem solving techniques.
