One day a little polar bear was playing on the snow. Then he fell in the water and he drowned in a second.  He magically came to life.

Oh no I fell over again someone needs to put some carpet down
so I don't slip over. Now I've got a bobo on my beautiful white fluffy
leg, from that stupid slippery ice. Why is there no signs saying watch

Tuning In to Te Marae

As part of Tuning in we are developing our knowledge of Deep Understanding 1.  We did this through looking at pictures and discussing definitions before working in Unity completing a ‘silent jigsaw’.

Deep Understanding 1: Understand that a marae is a  focal point.
This is important because a marae enables us to carry out our
traditions and customs and express our values fully and with dignity.

Homework Sharing

As part of the Middle team's homework this term, we created posters advising people to take care of our native New Zealand birds.  This ties in with our Connected Curriculum learning of how we can attract more native birds to our school grounds.

Here are some of the posters which were created by Two Awesome.

Since I'm leaving, my WHOLE rugby team signed a rugby ball. "Thank you," I said as they gave it to me. Then I looked down at it,
even Brian and Bruce had signed it. A smile built upon my face.

WALT:be able to add detail to our story.

                                                       AUSTRALIA

As I splashed head first into the ample metallic aqua pool, I felt the glacial vibration as my brother jumped in after me so that it was almost synchronised. There was barely anyone there, because they were all lying in bed, when they should be soaking up the sunlight! When I hopped out of the pool it was almost identical to a sauna, but then again, so is Australia!

Matariki

To celebrate Matariki, Two Awesome came together with their Buddy Class ... the SUPER K9's!
These wonderful learning buddies shared and discussed the Maori Legend ...
The Star Fishes
retold by Annie Wilkinson.
They then worked in Unity and had to persevere to create a fabulous mural which is now on display in the corridor outside Room 2.

Each of the smaller stars represent each student who took part in this activity. When they choose, their star can be the seventh star to form Matariki.

Term 2 Sharing afternoon

Thank you to all those who supported this initiative, it was a wonderful experience for the students to share their learning space with you.

WALT ... understand how God speak to us through the Bible

As part of Two Awesome's learning in the God strand, we looked at the Bible and identified how it is actually telling us things, and speaking to us.

In Connected Curriculum we have been learning to skim and scan to find the important words, the ones that send the message.
These are the Key Words we found in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

In the reading from Romans 12:9-16

Two Awesome have unpacked this reading using the Unity Value they have been learning about in class.

Love must be completely sincere. It has meaning.  Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good. Help other people instead of leaving people to fend for themselves. Love one another warmly as Christians, and be eager to show respect for one another. Treat everybody fairly. Work hard and do not be lazy. Always be positive and persevere. Serve the Lord with a heart full of devotion. Do what Jesus would have done. Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times. Be patient and pray everyday, always be happy. Share your belongings with your needy fellow Christians, and open your home to strangers. Don’t turn people in need away.
Ask God to bless those who persecute you - yes, ask him to bless, not curse. Show your faith through your actions. Be happy with those that are happy, weep with those who weep. Sharing others feelings or emotions. Have the same concern for everyone. Be nice to everyone. Do not be proud, but accept humble duties. Helping out even when it isn’t your job. Do not think of yourselves as wise. Don’t see yourself as being better than others.
Romans 12:9-16

Drawing Dinosaurs

How to measure a dinosaur

Use a variety of learning areas to understand the actual size of a dinosaur.
Firstly read the Journal article 'How do you measure a dinosaur?' written by a class from Island Bay School.
Then use you maths skills to draw a proportional grid over a picture of a dinosaur. This part is very tricky, you need to read your ruler carefully, draw straight lines and label it accurately.
Next use metre rulers and chalk outside on a suitable surface to draw the actual size of a dinosaur following your grid you created in class.
Finally step back and look at the size of the creature you have re-created!
This activity allows you to form an understanding of real dinosaur size while you are using reading, maths and problem solving techniques.

ANZAC: Writers Notebook

These pieces of writing have been published from some of the students Free Writing books.

Free Writing is based on an image or text which is visible on the whiteboard first thing on the school morning.  Each student has five minutes to write about whatever comes into their head using the information as inspiration.

This was the image on Tuesday morning ...
Hello?   Anyone in here?  Of course there is because it is a cemetery, but I actually know who is here.  I know it is a soldier from a war because it is a poppy.  I do not know which war it could be, war 1 or war 2?  What war could it be I wonder?                                                               Charlotte

Poppies are pretty.
Poppies are red.
The flower is an ANZAC flower.
Anneliese

No, I don’t want you to die.  Wha, wha.  Oh why did this happen?  This is so sad.  I want you back, please come back to life.  I don’t even know why they did it.
Here you go, here are some poppies for you.
Ajae

Why, why did you have to die, all those people that I don’t know.  Stop with the violence.
ANZAC Day is reported on the news.  Someone is going grave to grave and crying and he doesn’t even know these people.
Tess

ANZAC Day.
Red poppies by a stone.
That person was probably in the war.
Austin

ANZAC Day, not a really good day.  The day we remember that the people in the war died, not cool.  My Granddad was in the trenches too, it’s a good thing he didn’t die.
I wonder why the war started?  I wonder what it would have felt like for the people in the war?
William

ANZAC Day

Two Awesome created a wreath made from newspaper and branches, the poppies were cut from red paper and had the centre drawn on with a Sharpie.

Austin marched alongside his Policeman father during Dawn Parade, Palmerston North proudly holding Two Awesome’s wreath.

This wreath was later placed by Austin at the base of the cenotaph.

Thank you to all those from Room 2 which attended ANZAC Day in remembrance of those that have fallen.

Gymnastics!

Gymnastics

I felt absolutely nervous as I walked through the doors of the gymnastics arena in Wanganui. I did some stretches which we call, conditioning, (not the stuff you put in your hair though!)I felt achy, sore, tired, and hungry.
I felt like passing out and flopping over on the ground!
As I started my first apparatus, I had forgotten my routine! I had to go back and ask I felt so embarrassed! Finally, I think I’m ready now I mumbled to myself in my head. And before I knew it, I had finished with a score of 13.500 out of 15.500! Well done I heard my coach say enthusiastically. I felt proud, I felt like I was on top of the world! I still had 7 more apparatus but I tried not to think about that. By 9
o'clock I had finished. I felt nervous until the lady called me first! Victory was mine! ( for once.)
